Complete Dakar kit for the BMW R 12 G/S

The Unit Garage Dakar Kit reinterprets the style of the legendary Paris-Dakar motorcycles for the modern BMW R 12 G/S. It combines classic 1980s rally styling with greater range, ergonomic adjustments, protective components and a high-mounted Akrapovič-Unit Garage exhaust system.

Its development draws on the personal rally history of Unit Garage founder Fabio Marcaccini, who competed in the Paris-Dakar five times during the 1980s.

Reversible plug-and-play installation

All components in the kit are designed for easy and fully reversible installation. No modifications to the motorcycle's original parts are required. With the included instructions and video tutorials, the BMW R 12 G/S can be converted within a few hours.

Oversized Dakar fuel tank

The original motorcycle's fuel cap, fuel pump and activated carbon filter are reused. The low-fuel warning light also remains functional. All brackets for mounting the new tank are included.

Certain original BMW crash bars and brackets for BMW auxiliary lights are not compatible with the tank. Unit Garage recommends its own compatible crash bars and light brackets instead. The BMW logos shown in the images are not included. Pre-cut 3M double-sided adhesive tape for reusing the logos from the original tank is included.

Fenouil fairing

The fairing incorporates the lines of the legendary R80 GS PD and adapts them to the BMW R 12 G/S. It is made from ABS, replaces the original windscreen and provides aerodynamic protection.

Comfort handlebar and handlebar pad

The old-school handlebar features a crossbar and a constant diameter of 22 mm. It is higher than the original and has a more comfortable bend for a more relaxed riding position.

The classic off-road handlebar pad features the Unit Garage logo and protects the rider's face from the crossbar in the event of a fall. It is 23,5 cm long and has a diameter of 6 cm.

Rear fender and rally seat cover

The painted ABS rear fender recalls the lines of the GS models from the 1980s. It replaces the original body panel beneath the seat and comes with installation instructions. The BMW logo visible in the images is not included.

The rally seat cover is made from high-quality synthetic leather and replaces the cover of the original rally seat. An additional foam layer increases comfort. The cover features a grab strap and taped seams that prevent water ingress.

For installation, remove the seat, detach the original cover after removing the staples, center the new cover and secure it with new staples. Manual skill is required for professional installation; if unsure, installation by an upholsterer is recommended.

High-mounted Akrapovič-Unit Garage exhaust system

The exhaust system is not compatible with the left-side frame for BMW bags.

Engine and crash protection

The engine guard made from 3 mm thick anodized Peraluman light alloy is cold-formed and features outlet openings and pronounced reinforcing ribs. It is larger than the original and protects the engine, front exhaust headers and the particularly exposed area of the catalytic converter. Mounting hardware, vibration dampers and spacers are included.

The pair of right- and left-side crash bars is made from steel tubing with a diameter of 25 mm and a wall thickness of 2 mm. The highly durable powder coating and double-sided protective tubing combine protection with integration into the motorcycle's lines. Most maintenance work can be performed without removal. The bars are compatible with original and aftermarket cylinder head covers or guards.

CNC-machined engine covers

The two covers reinterpret the classic lines of older BMW boxer engines in a modern form. They are CNC-machined from solid material and are available either black anodized or sandblasted and anodized. Both versions feature machined fins and a logo. They fit the BMW R12 boxer models R 12, R 12 nineT and R 12 G/S.

Passenger grab handle

The minimalist grab handle is made from stainless steel with a highly durable powder coating. It provides support for the passenger, helps secure luggage behind the seat and can assist when moving or supporting the motorcycle off-road.

For installation, the two small original brackets for additional straps beneath the rear mudguard must be removed; the handle serves the same function. It is compatible with all Unit Garage bag frames and comes with an installation kit.
